On 27 June 2026, Luminari Care held a Fun Day at Mpemba Reformatory Centre in Blantyre, reaching 23 juvenile inmates and 7 members of the facility's management team. The event was delivered by a team of Luminari Care volunteers and partners and followed a structured programme: welcome and icebreakers, a program overview and open discussion with facility management, games and a dancing competition, a dedicated mental health session, and prize presentations. Alongside the recreational activities, the team held a focus group discussion with the management team to better understand the facility's operations and needs.

The event created a safe, supportive environment in which juveniles experienced joy, encouragement, and a renewed sense of belonging — often for the first time in a setting typically defined by confinement rather than care. By pairing recreation with a mental health session and a management-level focus group discussion, the Fun Day doubled as an early information-gathering exercise that directly informed the design of the Mlatho Project.
